Some Internet Marketers Refuse to Grow Up

Alexander RushingMy 6 year old son Alexander, who is in kindergarten, was assigned the task of learning the four seasons. As good parents should we help our children with their school work. When he was asked what the four seasons are his first answer was HUNTING SEASON. We died laughing. One thing I must let people know is that I am not a hunter never have been one and really have no intention of taking it up. The only place he could have gotten that from is school. That is ok. It is one of the benefits of living in Rural Coastal GA. Your children are exposed to thing such as shucking oysters, wearing shorts in December and the barrage of hunters driving into the woods every morning prior to and during hunting season.

I have recently entered a strong debate in a niche that I am not really a part of. The make money niche of online marketing. There has been a lot of hoopla about downline integrity and the formation of the Downline Integrity Brigade and usually a debate like that I would extricate myself, but I could not refuse. Hindsight being 20/20 I may not of reacted in an such an overly verbose stance but I do believe in standing up for what is right and cannot stand it when people take shots at others because they disagree with their opinion.

The bad thing is it caused me to lose some focus on other projects and now I must play catch up. Sigh…

Living for the Minute

October 11, 2007 · Filed Under Work · Comment

Long term goals and immediate gratification do not always go hand in hand and learning to develop a healthy balance of the two is paramount in my new endeavors.  I have decided to “retire” from the car business and continue to build my online properties.

Working for a car dealer is instant gratification with an extreme sacrifice on my family.  Working on my online properties has a healthy combination if instant gratification and building long term success while not sacrificing my family in the process.  Granted working for a car dealer can also help achieve long term goal but the price I must pay is to realize them in the near term is not worth it.  My kids will only be kids for so long and once those days are gone I cannot ever recoup them.

So for now I am living for the minute with my family while building online properties that will allow me the freedom to enjoy their company and build a solid income now and in the future!

Long nites and short days

Well I finally broke down and did it.  Yesterday after work I went to the Jacksonville dog track to play poker.  All and all it was a fun time.  I have not taken a break in quite sometime and it was good therapy.  It allowed me to immerse my mind in something that was totally unrelated to work or online marketing, plus it was a good break from the wife and kids.

The bad thing it was almost 3 am before I got in!  So I slept to 1 pm!  Oh well long nites make for short days.

I am currently teaming up with another internet marketer to build a member blogging site.  It is going to be labor intensive and rewarding.  It is going to be geared to helping others to market products and get the word out about things that matter to them.  A blogging platform on crack.

This coupled with several other online projects is going to keep my plate full.  Let’s face it a full plate is better than an empty plate or no plate at all.  I do have trouble explaining concepts to people who do not “get it” so I have teamed up with someone who has the patience required of a teacher.  So with our new project I will working on the back end and promotion and he will work on the instructional aspects of our new program.

Personal Online Properties Starting to Suffer

September 2, 2007 · Filed Under Sunday Update, Uneventful Ramblings, Work · Comment

Some of my personal affiliate sites are starting to suffer because of my new job.  It is ok for now.  The decrease in online income is offset by my employment income by 10 fold.  So for now I am not complaining.  It still does not offset my resolve to get online income to over 100K per year.  I do feel I can accomplish that in 2008.

The kids seem to being doing good.  I have spent a lot of time away from them with my new position.  The hours are tremendous.  I do still get the morning drive to school with them so we do get those few minutes of quality time in the morning, but for the last week they have been in bed when I got home.  Tomorrow I am making up for that.  We have a guys day out planned.

Preston’s surgery is coming up on Friday and that will probably be my next post here, I have many projects that I am working on online that generate income so I have to really concentrate my time there.

Cheers…

Sunday update 8-26-07

Ok daily updates may not be able to happen.  I just don’t have the time with everything else going on.  I am committing to updates 2 times a week now on Wednesday and Sunday.

With my new job, monitoring other online properties, creating content for them and spending time with the children there is not much time for online stuff that does not make any money!  I am not selling any products or advertising on this blog so it is really not a priority.

I am really torn on what to do about my current employment situation.  I feel like I could make a go at it on my own and work with dealers on building blog networks to help support their main site and increase their online presence and be able to spend more time working on my online properties.  Don’t get me wrong I really enjoy my new position it is just taxing on my family life that I have grown accustomed to.  After a year of self employment as a full time affiliate it is tough to work hours like 9 am to 8 pm.

Preston need to have the tubes replaced in his ears before they will perform the next round of surgeries.  They don’t want an ear infection causing other problems.  Makes since to me.  This is a simple procedure however anytime you put a little guy under it is a major deal.  So that surgery is coming up in the next week.

Alex is still getting into mischievous trouble at school.  We are working with him on this.  The complaints we have been seeing are making noise in the bathroom and not stopping play time when told.  So he just needs to learn to listen a little better.

Tyler is going to have his own blog soon and you can hear about his day there in his own words.  Tyler is the quiet socialite so he can tell you more about what is going on with him than me.

First day of school and a day of reckoning.

Well today was the first day of school for Tyler and Alex. Tyler entered the fourth grade and Alex kindergarten. The day started very uneventful waking up kids to start their new schedule was just as expected. They did not want to get moving at 6:00 am, but we made it. Me being the loyal Dad I escorted the children to school and met their teachers. I was not able to to attend the open house due to work. So this was my first time meeting them. All was well. The teachers seemed pleasant enough and the kids are in good hands.

Fast forward to 4:00 pm. The children rode the bus home from school, my wife was disappointed that she missed them getting off the bus but Granny was there to meet them. Alex on his first day came home with a :( on his daily report! His first day of school and he gets the dreaded sad face. My wife was shocked. She called me to tell me about it. Our children have never been in daycare so this was really Alex’s first day on his own in a strange environment. Apparently, Alex was making a disruption in the bathroom playing under the stalls and being loud. Once I heard that I just chuckled. At least he did not bop some other kid in the head for using his crayons. So all in all it was a good first day of school and the boys seem to be doing fine and Alex will adjust to the structure of school in due time.

My day at Carl Gregory Chrysler Dodge Hyundai was a real stressful day too. I just love it when grown men can dish it out but they cannot take it in return. I am not going to give specifics but when you have to interact with other people on a daily basis and there is a mutual reliance for production of income choose your words wisely. Most of the time it is not the message it is the delivery of the message. If you want to stress a point with someone who is not sure of the procedure don’t attempt to denigrate in the process.
